October Write Up
Mill Creek Wranglers
October 2007
Welllll: the rains kept us from doin that; but we’ll save those stages for November…. Lord willin and the creek don’ rise!Anyhowz, a dozen hardy souls showed up to have a hand at the match: Someone was watching, cause jist as 10am came around, the rain, which had been heavy and fitful all morning, jist…… went…… away. (Chilliwack Buck had called yers truly at o-dark-thirty cause it was pourin’ cats n’ dogs up his a-way….. I looked out our window, and while the sky was threat’nin, no rain was comin’ down. Told him that, and he (very doubtfully) sed “OK, we’ll bundle up and come on over!” Of course; jist as soon as Del Rio & I got inta the pickemup, the skys opened…. And we thot: Hmmmmm: that warm bed’s beginnin ta look reallll, realll goooddd….. but we forged on….. And had lotsa jokes about the "Mill Creek Mudders"Enny-whos: we got to the range, and JIST as we pulled in: the rain’s stopped: What a great omen for the start of the day…… And bout 10 cowpokes wanderin’ round, getting’ a single stage set up, n’ puttin up an umbrella and tent ta keep the sun off of us… How nice is that??? We got ta say howdy ta a bunch of people we hain’t seen in a bit: Chilliwack Buck and the ever-luverly Devils Bliss, and Wicklow Wrangler, and Highland Ranger, and ta new shooters Preston Co Rider and Six Gun Santa!Hmmmm; we didn’t’ see the Dude, so we whipped up a few of the old stages from past matches, and had at it!! Wicklow Wrangler re-wrote a couple, then delegated his autrhorroroity to yer’s truly fer a coupla more. The stages were fun; and required a bit of thought, but were mostly about: SHOOTIN!! First up: there’s 10 targets: each target gets 2 shots; yer pistols hold 10 & yer rifle holds 10: Have at it!! Well: yers’ truly started off early and smartly (huh??? What’s that?? Smarta$$hed?? Hmmmph!) shot the close targets with the rifle, and the far targets with the pistol; quick with the rifle, slow fer the pistol…. But FUN!…. welll… until getting’ the targets mixed up and shootin’ 1 target 3 or 4 times… wellll, you know how that goes…. First procedural of the day to 2-Step!! Ah decided it twas NOT a day fer yers’ truyly ta go fast and mebeee win (Winner ta buy the beer at our “After Bang & Clang – Clink & Drink” up at the RH&B.) So ah went out and shot a buncha stages gunfiter style: with a pistol in each paw… big fun, that!!! But ah jist caint’ git up ta the smooooothnes that Wicklow brings ta his gunfiten Prowess!! (Ifn’ ya din’t know: Wicklow Wrangler is the Maryland STATE Black Powder Gunfighting Champion for 2007!!)We’lst: we didn’t move much, as the ground was pert slick after the 4 days of rain. Didn’t matter, tho, we were all able ta miss shots and ring up procedurals with great ease!! (After hearin’ stage 3s description, JD walked up and asked yers truly ifn’it was written jist fer him ta git a procedural on purpose!!) I told him then, and repeat it: I DIN’T WRITE THE STAGE: & USED IT JIST AS IT WAS!! That’s muh story & ah’m stickin’ to it!! Dang, but a LOT uf us’ns got procedurals on that stage……. Well, we got finished with 4 stages, still had time, and all uf us still had sum ammo ta burn, so we set up a quick dump stage; 4 targets; 5 rounds on each; twas easy and quick…..but a coupla cowboys seemed ta git toooo anxious, and missed a bunch…. Ya kin tell from the attached results!!Ya will notice there were a BUNCH of ties this month: Highland Ranger and Wicklow tied for 7th place, Del Rio& Lt Romaine tied for 3rd, and Chilliwack Buck & Yers truly tied fer first: Y’all kin decide about letting the time break the ties: Ifn’n Chilliwack hadn’t ta had so many misses on the last stage…… HE’d uf had ta buy the beer!!!Enny-hows: Till Novembers’ match: it will be the HOLLOWEEN Match!! 3rd Saturday the 17th.See ya then, Lord willin’and the creek don’t rise!2-Step & Del Rio
